Does anyone out there have any experience in hard drive recovery? I recently moved all of my photos to a new external USB Hard Drive and when I went to access them yesterday well you can see above what they look like. I know I should have backed up to CD as well and had planned on it but I just bought this new drive so I guess I thought it would be fine for a while.

Nearly all of my photos taken with my Canon D20 were on that drive, including the photos for this weeks PHLOG exhibit.

So if you have any ideas let me know.

If you're using a Macitosh computer, I would check out buying Disk Warrior by Alsoft (http://www.alsoft.com/DiskWarrior/). It is a great piece of software that has saved my bacon a number of times. However, I've not dealt with your actual problem (bizarre scrambled files)but if it's a disk directory problem it may be repairable with Disk Warrior. I'd first discuss your problem with someone at Apple or Alsoft before purchase (about $100-but worth every penny). If you're using a PC, there's probably similar software out there for you. Good luck.

I dunno, I think you should print those out while the drive is still functioning and exhibit them as-is. I'd love to see more!

Starfire, I have no advice really but hope it's repairable. Guess this is a "Man, that sucks!" comment.

Starfire, if you email me, I'll send you a link to a Windows-based recovery software that might help you. Technically, the images should still be on your hard drive if you just "moved" them to the USB drive.

So email me, root at drunkencomputing.com and I'll send you the file to try and recover them.

P.S., It can also recover off of flash drives, memory cards, etc.

Seriously: If you click "post" more than once, you're going to end up looking really stupid.
