Normally, I'm not a fan of these RIP posts, but Carlin's albums helped form my sense of humor from an early age. I can't think of seven words unspeakable enough to express how I feel about this right now.
Few people know Carlin narrated some of the Thomas the Tank Engine TV episodes. I remember it being kind of weird hearing him doing it the first time, but after a while his voice grew on me. I can imagine, though, Sir Topham Hat saying, instead of "Bother!" something like, "That #@%^$!! Thomas F****'d up again!"
It was so strange; for some reason my son (19)and I were discussing religion Sunday night and I told him the Carlin bit about religion being like lifts in your shoes; if it makes you stand a little taller, great - but don't go nailing lifts on the natives. And then he died a couple hours later; very sad!
PS He was also in top form in "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" as the conductor of the time machine!
I believe Ringo was first, but no big deal. Carlin and Baldwin stand out as the Thomas narrators. The current felow does ok, but seems pretty ... um ... gay.
I just thought it kind of neat for a guy who is known for his raunchy style to agree to do a kids show. And it worked.
Not to devolve the tribute to George Carlin into a Thomas the Tank Engine tribute, but if you read the books, Thomas starts out as a pompous ass. He gets nicer though.
And the "gay" voice you're hearing? Pierce Brosnan.
That movie was quite terrible. I'm sure Baldwin doesn't put it on his resume.
Pierce Brosnan? Um ... no.
Getting back to Carlin, I remember a few years ago he spoke at the Press Club and was hilarious. My wife got me asa gift a couple of years ago Carlin's book, "When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops?" It started out funny, but eventually got too boorish and ranting. Disapointment.

Here was a man who told it like it is and didn't stand for bullshit. He will be missed.

I love his analogy of how the earth created humans which in turn made plastic because the earth couldn't make it on its' own!!!

I'm sad.

I find it ironic that on this day I'm buying a new place for my stuff.
I remember covertly listening to his tapes as a young teenager in the early 80s and learning all about the 7 words you can't say on the radio.
George, you will be missed.

One of my favorite Carlin lines (and I paraphrase):
"Some people see a glass half-empty, some see a glass half-full; I see a glass that's two times bigger than it really needs to be."

There are only two comedians that have had the ability to make me laugh until I piss my pants - George Carlin and Dave Chapell. Sad day.....

in addition to Carlin, Ringo Starr also filled the bill as conductor.

I'm pretty sure he's the guy that said religion was a mental illness. My kinda guy.

Carlin first on Thomas, later Ringo, I think.

Scribbler, you are so right and I forgot that Alec Baldwin used to do it, too.
It's very bizarre that those 3 guys narrated this strange little show. It was always a big hit with the grownups, along with PeeWee's Playhouse...!

Alec Baldwin reprises his role as conductor in the Thomas movie.
Henry Fonda stars in it.

PETER Fonda...sorry.

Yes, let's all start critically analyzing the guy's oeuvre, when he's barely cold.
And how funny was your last book?
(Just jibing, not trying to be mean...)
