Cheesy Tourist Fun
This weekend I had family in town. There are certain touristy things that I only do when I have out-of-town company. Some of them bore me, and some of them are kind of fun. One of my favorites is rushing down to Canal Park to watch a big boat come in all close up and personal. It's free and I always get a kick out of how excited my guests are about watching a boat go under the lift bridge.
So, what are your favorite cheesy, touristy things to do in Duluth? Things you only do when you have visitors, but you still enjoy them?

Usually I like to take visitors to non-touristy places for the most part, but the one "touristy" thing I like to do is make people stand under the lift bridge as it comes down. It's fun.

my mom never comes up to see me anymore...there's grandkids to spoil.
She usually likes to hit the antique shops Downtown, and a couple up on 61. While we're there, we usually hit the Rustic for some Shepherd's Pie. Next trip up, we're taking her to Grand Marais. She's never been farther than Pallisade.
Apparently she's also a fan of the Coney breakfast.

We go to the Marine Museum by the bridge. The old-fashioned deep-water diving outfit has scared me since I was a little kid.

I moved from Duluth in 1992 but I bring my husband and kids back every summer. I love the Marine Museum, especially the sailor's bunks I loved as a kid, sand dune diving on Park Point, the little train up the North Shore, Palisade Head, Gooseberry Falls, etc.
