Your Geek Culture Update
A few Star Trek related items this week caught my eye to receive the Geek King Seal of Approval.
Mr. Sulu to wed! George Takei announced on his website that, now that California has lifted the ban on same-sex marriage, he will marry his long-time partner, Brad Altman. "We've shared the good times as well as struggled through the bad," Takei writes. "Now, we can have the dignity, as well as all the responsibilities, of marriage." Congratulations!
Wesley Crusher disses Trek! Wil Wheaton, self described geek, tells it like it is when writing about the upcoming JJ Abrams reinvention of Trek:
"I'm going to commit heresy right now and say what few people are willing to say out loud: most of the Star Trek movies are absolute garbage. There have been ten Trek movies, and I'd say that two of them are accessible to mainstream audiences, another two are great, and the remaining six are nearly unwatchable. If JJ Abrams wants to make his new Trek movie unlike the 80% of Trek movies that aren't that good, that's just fine with me. Not that my opinion means anything, you understand, but rambling on and on about things like this is the price of being a geek, and I regret nothing. NOTHING!"

As a bonus Wil Wheaton also pokes his head into the political ring with this send up of Hillary Clinton as the Democratic Party's Psycho Ex-Girlfriend:
DEMS: ...Hello?Hillary: Hey baby.
DEMS: C'mon Hillary. Enough with this.
Hillary: Don't you get it? You NEED me.
DEMS: No, I don't. It was fun while it lasted but I'm with Barack now. I made my choice, it's done.
Hillary: You can't really mean that. How can you say that after all the good times we had?
DEMS: To be honest, I started hanging out with you because Bill's pretty awesome.
Hillary: But I'm just like Bill!
DEMS: No, you're not. Bill is charismatic, inspiring, and gets me really good weed.
Hillary: Fuck you. You're elitist!

THanks for the laugh! Wheaton totally nailed it, says this 40+ female supporter of Obama, who says Hillary might want to hang it up and exit stage right. GFNC, you saw Wil Wheaton pull a LEECH from his balls? EWW. Do tell, in gory detail!
BTW, I grew up on Star Trek, the TV show. That was some damn awesome television! The movies don't even compare.

Hello Claire, putting it in words wouldn't do it justice. Rent "Stand by Me". It's based on a Stephen King short story called "The Body" that happens to be more of a coming-of-age tale than a horror story. YMMV :)

The phone call thing was funny, but a I found it a tad inaccurate. I think most emotionally devastated, psycho exes(male or female) are more in touch with the reality of the situation. Most probably know deep down the relationship is over, even if their actions say otherwise. I wonder if Hillary has that same clarity. It's even more puzzling when emotions can be taken out of her case and can be boiled down to irrefutable math.

All this talk has fermented another the desire ...once again ... to have a 10Forward event at HCIS. This time in OUR NEW THEATER!!! 5.1 surround sound and HD big screen. I'll post about this soon.

Can't resist: Which are the two "great" Trek movies. I'm gonna go with the one where they make peace(6? with the Klingons featuring one of my favorite movie lines ever "Only Nixon can go to China." And also the one where they make the transparent aluminum and save the whales (4?). Anyone else?

The even number Star Treks have been better than the odd number ones. The last one was absolutely awful, though. Except for II & VI, most of them have not stood the test of time. Hopefully the re-booting of the movie franchise will be good.
I always thought they should do a movie utilizing the time line from Yesterday's Enterprise or even just flesh out the episode into a full length feature. Alternate universe Picard going down with the ship was one of my favorite moments from TNG.
