Wild and Windy Wilco

Who else was at Wilco on Tuesday? I officially retract the statements I made here. The Bayfront show was one of the best rock shows I've ever seen. The band seemed to be having a blast, the crowd was happy and enthusiastic, the wind was pure Duluth, the fog was dreamy and strange, and the music was simply incredible.

At one point during an extended Nels Cline riff, a ship was leaving the bay, passing under the bridge in the eeriest of light and mist. Jeff Tweedy looked over, mouth slightly agape, and raised his arm toward the ship. He looked out over the audience, then back to the ship, clearly in awe of his surroundings. Then he joined back in the song.

I've seen Wilco 4 times, and that was the best show out of them all. They had a nice setlist covering all their records, including the Mermaid Ave. stuff, playing most everything I wanted to hear. Low opening made it all the better. My friends and I had a great time, but Wilco looked like they were having a lot of fun. Towards the end, Glen the drummer stood up and mouthed something to the audience, but I only caught the end of it. Something about "love Duluth"? Did anyone else catch that?

So, maybe they'll come back eh?

Incredible! I wasn't sure about the weather at first but it totally made the experience even cooler. (No pun intended)

By far the best show I have seen in Duluth. Actually the only show that competes with it was the Dylan/Paul Simon show at Bayfront a few years back. I don't think the band, the crowd, the weather and the overall ambiance could have been any better. If you missed this show...you should punish yourself.

Fantastic show, best of the three times I've seen them since '99--and yeah, the ambiance of Bayfront that night was awesome, with the fogs and the ships and the wind. I'm almost glad now that they had to cancel the show back in August. :+)

'twas magic. The anticipated dread of a raw autumn night...
became oh yes, this is so right.

Echoing the above comments, great show! I thot the theme music from the "Bob Newhart Show" from the 70's playing before Wilco took the stage was funny-sweet (BNS was set in Chi-town, I think?!).
I too was glad for the Sept 4 date - it made it! When Al Sparhawk, at the end of the Low concert, stated to the audience, something like "turn around & look at that beautiful city on the hill" you couldn't help but do just that - & Jeff Tweedy looking, with awe (yes), at the ship leaving the bay under the bridge so complemented the music - it was great rocking out with the bands, the fog, late summer, slightly cold wind, wrapped in a blanket dancing. . .

In short, (okay, maybe not quite), they were two amazing concerts : )

whoops - posted twice - guess I liked it alot?!

Just wondering: Were the chicken pox t-shirts appreciated?

Well, I sure liked mine! haha I think I thought I saw somebody throw one up to Nels Cline on stage, too...

I agree with everything everyone has said. The music, the weather, the crowd - all fantastic. It's probably one of the best concerts I've been to.

Can we still get the pox shirts?

heysme, Nels came up to me before the show looking for Scott. He wanted two shirts. Hopefully, he found them. I got to chat with him and he shook my hand. Fortunately, the shirt didn't live up to it's statement.

i am becoming a Wilco enthusiast.
i flew from LA to see this show and it was worth every mile. the only thing cold was the weather-this show was Hot.
one of the best Wilco shows i have ever seen considering i have seen about 15 in the last 12 years.

Excellent! They played all the best songs - such surreal surroundings - great beer - great crowd. Great show!

Best show ever!!!
The last time I saw Wilco, it was about 100 degrees in the State Theatre and I had top row seats (not near the top or top tier, absolutely can-not-get-any-higher top row) It was not cool.
I loved the Bayfront show for all the aforementioned reasons plus the fact that for a while, it looked like Low were not just out playing in the weather, but actually creating it. Pretty cool.
As my wife (she said this was the "happiest" feeling show she had ever been to) and I wandered around, catching the sights and sounds from all possible angles, we ran into a seasoned concertgoer who said "Did you check out the boat? That was awesome! You can't get that at Red Rocks." Take that, Colorado!

This was my major impression. I literally couldn't stop smiling during the entire show. I would look out over the audience from my viewpoint near-stage right, and everyone was so enthralled, so involved, so happy to be experiencing this great night. There was indeed a happy vibe, even in line for the biffies!

Definitely one of the best concerts I've been to in a while. Does anyone have a set list of the show, or know where to find one?
