Urban Crafts Shop Opening Downtown

Hello, Folks! This fall we can all delight in the joy of shopping at Duluth's first shop devoted to Urban Crafts and DIY! Tinderbox is opening in October and will carry all handmade goodness created by Duluthians!
In the meantime, there is still space for more crafters. So, I'm putting the call out. If you or someone you know is making cool wares and needs a place to sell them, Tinderbox could be it. All urban crafts made in Duluth will be considered, but there is a specific desire for: Accessories (wallets, keychains, hair things, etc), cool stuff for guys, housewares, things made with found/recycled materials. If you're interested, don't waste anytime e-mailing [email protected]!

i will admit i am not a crafty person in any sense of the word so i plead my ignorance in asking what are urban crafts?

The term "Urban Crafts" is really just sexy vernacular used describe what is basically the hipper, stylish counterpart to "traditional" crafts. Urban crafters use similar materials with some exceptions and many use post-consumer and found materials to create cool, reused items. It's generally not the stuff you find at an art fair in the woods. In fact most Urban Art Fairs are in- suprise!- very urban locales. For example, at Tinderbox you can expect to find less crocheted trivets, wooden welcome signs and marshmallow snowman and more handbags made with funky fabrics, journals created with cool papers and embellishments, one-of-a-kind clothes, gifts made with reused materials and just cool, handmade stuff in general. It's tough to explain, so hopefully you'll plan to stop in when the shop is open!

Ah so much for dead rat coin purses, shimmering oil slick earrings and skyscraper heels.

I kid I kid, please don't sic shiv sharpened street signs against me (now thats alliteration!!!)

mmmm...trivets.

How about doodads??

See DeeDee for doodads.

Is there a need for opera gloves? big gawdy bead rings? plus size clothes that don't make you feel so much of a plus? vintage-inspired clothes that don't smell vintage? faux-aged furniture and signs? re-upholstered chairs? bliss of another kind..
