My Alma Mater...

The Last Exit on Brooklyn ...my genesis...

I learned here, I grew up here, got drunk, got stoned, tripped my ass off here.

In reality, a more degenerate establishment never existed. "Foul Stanky" is what we called it.

But it was home. It was where we lived, where we loved. It was where we gathered before leaving town, and where we met on our return.

I could tell you stories, from my perspective, based on five years of "residence" in this place that could sometimes be regarded as indeed the "Center of the Universe," though residents of Fremont like to lay claim to that title as well.

And I do love to tell them, too...

Amen, InDog, Amen.

Also provokes memories of altered state kite flying at the Gasworks, clam nectar while strolling
the market or even breakfast at the Dog House. Wow hard to believe I been in Minnesota 16 years now.

the Dog House is now the Hurricane, or has been since 1994 or so...

the Exit has been defunct since about the same time...

and then there is Beth's...

I was a part of the group of Peace Heathens who took over Gasworks during the first Gulf War and renamed it Peaceworks Park.

Desiderata.....Interesting.
I have another take on the poem.
When cleaning out grandmother's house, post passing, I found this poem. Looking for any sign that grandmother would send me regarding the afterlife, I read this poem with a heavy heart.
I liked it because it reminded me of how my gram lived.
I see the poem everyday, as it is posted above my desk at home.
Here's the interesting part. The poem is typed (not word processed) and it states "author unknown". At the beginning of the poem it says that "this was found in a church in the 16th century".
It was the 5th anniversary of gram's death yesterday when I read this post........
I try not to make life complicated, it is what it is....I think grandma used you, Dog, to reach me. Thank you.
