Music Venue?

Hello music community of Duluth,
I’m pretty new (2 years) to Duluth and I was wondering where music loving people go to see shows? Is there a venue where people go to hear music instead of all that other bullshit (non-music related)? If so, I would like to hear about it. I would like every person’s opinion. If your old, young, middle, black, white (Chicano, hell if I know (hip-hop fans are you with me now?)), listen to any era, type, classification, of music, I WANT YOUR INPUT! If this place doesn’t exist, are there plans for a place like this? If not, I would like to talk to other people and share ideas about this topic. Peace everyone.

Your Friend,
Buffalo Skin

P.S. Go Don(ny) Ness!!!! You have my support and hopefully all of the music community’s. I think you have a level head, a love for Duluth, and a love for music… that’s all any town really needs. When you're mayor of this fine city, will you please not turn into a dirty politician. That’s all I ask.

I'm guessing that you haven't read PDD much? There is usually a fairly steady stream of event (music too) postings and where to see them. Really two years? Also pick up a transistor, while it may not be 100% comprehensive it does list a good deal of whats happening and where.

Donny's certainly a good choice for Mayor, but this time around we have at least two great choices, Meg Bye is running as well. I think either one would do a fine fine job.

aside from the transistor, as much as many (myself included) despise it, you can search myspace for a pretty comprehensive listing of local shows. the transistor's your safest bet though...

Lord knows what kind of social disease you'll catch at myspace

i could think of at least a dozen...

alas poor MAC, I knew it Horatio...

anyone remember the big sleepover?

The Tap Room (Fitgers) was a good place to catch a show on weekends. Local talent with the occasional visits from our friends in the minne-apple. But, of course . . It is now moving and [sigh] who knows

P.S. a couple of links for you to nibble on . .

Tap Room is moving into the 21 North spot (21 N. 4th Ave. West).

yeah, even though it smelled of cat pee I liked the MAC

Donny Ness is a little queer that I'd love to punch in the face. What is it with all you freaks and faggots that draws you to these moronic amateurs? He looks like he's 10 years old and has the aptitude to go with it. Vote for Ness and see what you wind up with a few years from now. Your beloved Bergson sure did a lot, didn't he... Fuckin' morons.

JJ - i'm fantasizing about some hot man on man sex with you right now. your words make me moist.

I'm thinkin that Jay's gotta be a severely closeted homosexual...this is one of several gaybashing posts he's put up now...

Someone with THAT many issues with homosexuality has got to be seriously confused about his own issues with his sexuality.

I advise ignoring J's comments altogether from here on out.

PDD sure has changed since comments opened up...

JJ - you are 100% right about Bergson. Who are you going to support?

I guess my opening question was a little vague. I know about the transistor, have seen shows at many of our local establishments, and have enjoyed shows at our local establishments. My ideas were trying to get at where do people who have the principle priority of hearing music go? It just seems to me that if people don’t have the opportunity to get shit-faced, they don’t show up. Jason Molina (check him out if you haven’t already) came to the MAC on his polar bear tour and I heard that nobody showed up. Somebody asked him if he would ever come back and he said no. There are other examples, but why was this? Please give your input.

if you like blues, then Bev's on tower in superior is place to go. it doesn't get enough credit for the caliber of music that she has there. its small but beer is cheap.

Transistor's online again.

Bev has a listserv: jjointmusic [at] yahoo [dot] com.

Thanks for the info on Bev's Adam and Jay. Is there a place where college students and high school students go to shows?

There are many shows at UMD (Kirby Student Center)which aren't really advertised off-campus. Here's a link:

I'm sure the students at the other colleges have similar events, just check out the websited for "student activities."
