GLBTQAI - Sexual Identity Scrabble!

scrabble1So I saw c-freak's post below and realized that, at 7 letters, GLBTQAI could be a tray for Scrabble.

Here's the contest. This is your tray. You go first. Make your best word using these letters, knowing that you have the double word score to play off of. Since you are first, there are no other words on the board to play off of. Any words found in the Official Scrabble Dictionary are legal. In case of a tie, earlier entries trump later entries, so enter soon! I will determine the winner at 3 p.m. on Friday, December 15. The winner will have a $5 Gift Certificate at Robin Goodfellow waiting for them at the store.

(If anybody wants to contribute to the winning pot just to make it more interesting, let me know.)

Just in case you don't know or can't read the lousy webcam photo, here are the letter points:

G 2
L 1
B 3
T 1
Q 10
A 1
I 1

Good luck!

qat...

glib.

QAT is not listed in the Official Scrabble Dictionary, so GLIB is the word to beat at 14 points.

balti?

BALTI is not listed in the OSD, but thanks for playing!

I would second points to Shaun. Official Scrabble site shows 'qat' (http://www.hasbro.com/scrabble/pl/page.tools/dn/home.cfm). How old is the OSD?

I'm not using the online search engine. I'm using the book. It's at home, so I can't tell you the date right off, but it was given to me as a valentine's day present in the early 90s, so I'd guess late 80s.

What is a "qat" anyway?

iirc qat is a plant/leaf that is chewed somewhere in the mideast... a stimulant I thnk

I think thats it, it all depends on how you rule. Qat is 22 glib is 14, I don't see anything else that comes close. I am pretty sure Qat is accepted in scrabble nowadays, but if you stick with the older book to perserve independant verification then glib is the winner. there are some 12 pts words (eg. glit.. glia), but nothing else that uses the g/b >3 letters, and Qat is the only possible q word at all

I accept that my copy of the OSD may be out of date. I will do some research and find the most current version and the ajudicate from there.

Thanks for all who have played along!

Well, my OSD is copyright 1978 and is apparently the first edition. (!!!)

Time to get a new OSD.

Alright, new criteria. If the scrabble.com based on the latest (3rd Ed.) Official Scrabble Dictionary accepts it, then I will. And since it accepts QAT, I guess Shaun is dee man.

you rawk ironic 1!

qibla: the point to where Muslims turn in prayer.

Worth 28 points?

Or
qabala: alternate spelling of Kabbalah?

Worth 34 points?

QIBLA is not found in the OSD (3ed). Sorry.

And QABALA? Where do you get the two extra As?

QAT is still the reigning champion.

oh my bad... it's been a while since i played scrabble.

And QAT is the winner with (10+1+1)x2=22 points. Well done, Shaun! I'm arranging your gift certificate at Robin Goodfellow as I type this.

Thanks to all who entered and convinced me I need a new Scrabble Dictionary.

a 3 letter word is the victor, who knew?

Seriously: If you click "post" more than once, you're going to end up looking really stupid.
