music

What are PDDers listening to these days as far as music? I've hit a dry spell as far as new tunes and would appreciate some suggestions. My last downloads from iTunes included Matisyahu "Live at Stubbs" and The Mamas and the Papas "If You Can Believe Your Eyes and Ears".

Tom Russell sounds pretty cool, as previously posted. For myself, I've been listening a lot to Lucero lately, as they're playing at the Triple Rock in the cities on Saturday.

for those farther south, evidently they're playing on the 9th in madison at the king club.

Jumping on the bandwagon 5-years-too-late, my band of the moment is "Of Montreal". I listen to their new album "The Sunlandic Twins" for any mood, day or night.

two words. dionne warwick.

"gram rabbit - dirty horse "is a new favorite ... very catchy in a dank and dark sorta way.

calexico's cover of "alone again or"

"the owls" from mpls

i've been streaming mpr's the current when i'm looking for some new hip bits, or a reminder of some old favs.

I'm just coming off of a move, so I haven't felt like diving back into my music collection...I't's only been set up for a couple of days...

I'm still fond of 'A Rush Of Blood To The Head', had it on at volume yesterday afternoon because I had to set up the remainder of my speakers in the house.

but have recently rediscovered Paul Simon's 'Graceland.'

Sleepfarmer's CD is great, as is the new Mogwai.

I listnened to 'Who's Next' on the turntable last night.

MPR Classical on the box upstairs in the bedrom...always on, always barely audible...makes me sleep good.

The first music that was heard in the new house was Blue Sky and the Devil (TBT), and The Grateful Dead from 5.21.77 Lakeland Florida.

I can't get enough of Broadcast's 'The Noise Made by People'... utterly gorgeous. Recently, I've also returned to Zoot Woman's first album... excellent and summery and unashamedly influenced by Hall & Oates. What more can you ask for??

Also good on the 60s and 80s tips, respectively, are Jim Noir and the Adam Ant singles comp Antics in Forbidden Zone (of course!)

Take the beight.

My ears have been receiving tunes from the Stereophonics, Neko Case, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, the Grateful Dead, Richmond Fontaine, and that cool Thelonius Monk-John Coltrane release. ummph.

Anyone heard the new Chick Corea album? Its a welcome return to Return to Forever.

yeah ... support Beight ..

nothing makes me feel more comfy than Matt Pond PA .. nothing makes me feel more jumpy that Mates of State

The Sadies, Favourite Colour.

Like Uncle Tupelo, Love and the soundtrack from a spaghetti western, all rolled up together.

There should be a category called 'recommendations' where people can recommend things. Music, movies, restaurant meals, stuff like that.

Johnny Cash, Paul Simon, and Queen...

Just stream the Current.

I cannot wait to move to Mpls this May so I don't need to have a computer handy to listen to it.

Alison: Done!

I'm currently addicted to The Weepies new album, "say i am you" (I have Ms. Dean's copy, so she'll probably read this and want it back). The Weepies played with Jerree Small a year or two ago at Beaners. Speaking of Ms. Dean and Jerree, the first played the second's track from "Duluth Does Dylan Revisited" recently on KUMD. I really liked the track & was wondering what the rest of the album was like. Who's going to post a review?
