Dispatch From Bayfield
I finally made it back to the Bayfield Apple Festival after an absence of some 16 years! The last time I had the pleasure, I was knee-high to a snake! This visit was somehow different.
I don't get the Apple Festival. Now, don't get me wrong - I love partaking of the fruit which brought us all damnation and expulsion from paradise.
However, I believe the "Apple Festival" is a bit of a misnomer, and now provide a list of alternate titles which I feel would better represent the true nature of this event:
1. Bayfield Marching Band Festival
2. Bayfield Really Expensive Food From a Cart Festival
3. Bayfield Cheezy/Rigged Carnie Game and Scary Carnie Ride Festival
In short - I'm glad I went, as it was an experience. The drive was spectacular, and I encourage everyone to explore the back roads of eastern Douglas and Bayfield Counties. I doubt, however, that my return to the "Apple" Festival will come anytime soon.
...Although...here's come cool stuff, seen in Bayfield on Sunday.
I can't resist commenting on this last photo: This guy drove the Spam truck, as the "delegation" from the SPAM museum in Austin, MN. Question is, What kind of message is this sending about SPAM. (Not that we don't already know it, but still...)
